Jesus Lord over Nature

Sunday, 05 February 2012

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Kingdom Parables

Sunday, 22 January 2012

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Description:
The kingdom of God is the chief subject of Jesus' teaching. This should grab out attention! To help us understand the kingdom, Jesus uses an abundance of parables. In our passage today, we explore four parables that explain things like the unstoppable and unexpelled growth of the kingdom.

Parable of the Sower Part Two

Sunday, 15 January 2012

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Description:
After having told the parable Jesus now explains it to us. His teaching is incredibly helpful as it shed light on why some have no interest in the gospel, why others seem incredibly interested but quickly fade away, why others do not reject Christ outright but never grow and why others actually do bear fruit yet in differing amounts. As we understand Jesus' explanation, we will understand that only the last group are true Christians and how we can become more fruitful as his followers.

Parable of the Sower Part One

Sunday, 08 January 2012

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Description:
So far, the Gospel of Mark is very fast-paced as we read Jesus carrying out his messiamic ministry. We move quickly from scene to scene as Jesus teaches, heals the sick, and cast at demons. Now, we take a break for the action as Jesus tells us a parable to explain why there is such a mixed reaction to his ministry. This parable is incredibly important as it unlocks how to interpret Jesus' other parables. Jesus also explains why he uses parables so often.

Opposition to Jesus Intensified

Sunday, 01 January 2012

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Description:
As Jesus' ministry expands its impact, it stirs deeper levels of opposition. We read about how even Jesus' own family opposed him. Our passage also describes how the religious leaders from Jerusalem, the highest ranking ones among the Jews, accuse Jesus of being possessed by Satan. Jesus surely suffered immensely from such rejection but his suffering can help us walk through our trials without falling to temptation.

God With Us

Sunday, 25 December 2011

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Description:
We are all familar with the Christmas story. However, it is easy to lose sight of the true significance and power of Christmas - God with us! Today we look at the account of Jesus' supernatural origin, idenity, and purpose as tod by Matthew.

Dan Hanle Do Not Fear

Sunday, 18 December 2011

Speaker Name:  Dan Hanle

Description:
That first Christmas the angel said to the shepherds “Fear not”. Do we hear that today? Jesus taught from the very beginning of His ministry, until that final night in the Upper Room, that we are not to be afraid, and not to let our hearts be troubled. Why do we find it so hard to obey His command? Jesus even told us why we should not fear. He says we are more valuable than many sparrows, and not one of them falls to the ground without the Father. And Jesus says, do not fear because He goes to prepare a place for us. Still it seems in today’s world there is more to be afraid of, to worry about, or to be anxious for, than ever before. If that’s our struggle too, then perhaps we need to hear again Peter’s exhortation to “cast all our anxieties upon Him, because He cares for us.” We seek to gain the heart of the psalmist who was able to declare “I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”

Choosing the Twelve Apostles

Sunday, 11 December 2011

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Description:
As the Gospel of Mark begins a new section, we discover various reactions to Jesus' unique claims of authority. On one side of the sectrum, Jesus is extremely popular. People from faraway places traveled to see Jesus in hopes of being healed. Also, Jesus chooses twelve disciples whom he called apostles. Who were the apostles? What was their role? Why are they so significant, especially why choosing 12 apostles relates to the hope of the Old Testament.

Opposition Against Jesus

Sunday, 04 December 2011

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims

Description:
The opposition that has been rising against Jesus comes to a climax. The controversy traces back to Jesus and his view of fasting and most of all the Sabbath. Did Jesus actually break the Sabbath? Why do his teachings and actions cause the religious leaders to plot his death?

Healing of Sinners

Sunday, 27 November 2011

Speaker Name:  Pastor Bryan Sims   |  Mark 2:13-17

Description:
Jesus calls another disciple - Levi the tax collector, otherwise known as Matthew who wrote a gospel by his name. This event seems rather insignificant unless we understand how radical Jesus' actions were. Tax collectors were the dregs of Jewish society and Jesus' calling shows the unlimited scope of God's grace.
