Covetousness is wanting something that is forbidden. We are not to covet anything our neighbor has-spouse, possessions and personal characteristics such as their education, career, money, looks, personality, etc. If we are honest with ourselves, we often break this command, Moreover, these desires often lead to acting on them, thereby breaking other commands. Instead, God, desires that we be content with our situation, and ultimately put him first in our lives.

Description:
The command is clear enough-do not steal. However, it covers a lot of ground, especially since people come up with so many ways to steal! We must be reminded that all our possessions ultimately belong to God. Also, God wants us to care for the property of others, even to make sure they possess the essentials of life.
Seventh Commandment
Sunday, 18 April 2010
Speaker Name:
Pastor Bryan Sims
Series:
10 Commandments
Description:
The Sexual Revolution of the 1960's catapulted a greater disregard for the sanctity of marriage. Adultery has become much more common and accepted. However, God hates adultery because it breaks the marriage covenant and brings devastating consequences. However, the matter runs deeper. Once again, Jesus pinpoints the heart, namely that lust in our heart equates to adultery. Jesus warns us to cut off sexual temptation. We explore how to do so as well as the importance of enjoying marital intimacy.
Sixth Commandment
Sunday, 11 April 2010
Speaker Name:
Pastor Bryan Sims | Exodus 20:13, Exodus 22, Matt 5:21
Series:
10 Commandments
Description:
The sixth commandment instructs us not to murder. All societies agree that this must be the case. It is basic to human existence. The command also covers the unintentional taking of life. Though the punishment is less severe, it shows how all life is precious, even when it is taken accidentally. Finally, Jesus fulfills the command by deepening it. Jesus shows that murder not only begins with anger but is equilvalent to it. The essence of anger is the same as murder and deserves God's punishment.

Pastor Bryan Sims | 1Cor. 15:1-4, 1 Cor. 15:17

There is perhaps no more important question. The issue then becomes where does the evidence point? We will explore the two most popular theories that deny the resurrection and how they are very lacking. Then we will look at the evidence for the resurrection and what this means for us.

As we turn to the second part of the Ten Commandments, the focus is on our relations with each other. It is powerful that our attention starts in the home. Younger children are to obey their parents while adult children are to care for their parents when they get older.
Fourth Commandment Part 2

As with the rest of scripture,Jesus came to fulfill the Sabbath. He does so by applying the Sabbath principle of rest and restoration to physical ailments and, more importantly, to sin and guilt. Scripture also speaks of a rest still to come, when God restores all things in the new heavens and new earth. What a particular day of worship? The rest of the New Testament teaches that although Sunday is remarkably important, no day is binding as it was in Mosaic Covenant. However, we are wise to take a day of and rest since God designed us to need it.

Fourth Commandment
Sunday, 07 March 2010
Speaker Name:
Pastor Bryan Sims | Exodus 20:8, Exodus 23:12
Series:
10 Commandment
Description:
The Sabbath. The Fourth Commandment is certainly the most difficult of the commands to understand. Why does Jesus debate with the Jewish religious leaders about the Sabbath if it is one of the 10 Commandments? Is Saturday still the day set aside or is it now Sunday or no day in particular? To know what the Sabbath means today, we need first to understand what it meant in the Old Testamwnt: a day of rest and worship. However, the Sabbath principle went beyond this. It was embedded throughout their society with debts, servitude, the land property as well as their other religious festivals. Also, the Sabbath was the identifying sign of the Mosaic Covenant-it set them apart for the Gentiles as God's people. As significant as the Sabbath was, the appostle says that the Sabbath is a mere "shadow" compared to what we have now in Christ, the Lord of the Sabbath. We will see why next time.
